The stickers may indicate “Organic,” but they don’t always indicate “Fresh.” It seems that even organics may have to travel 1,300 to 1,500 miles to get to the consumer—losing that fresh-picked flavor all the way. It simply can’t compare with the crisp, fresh-picked healthy taste of locally grown produce that ‘s been raced to your store. Maybe there’s a debate on which one has the greater nutritional value—organic or local—but there is no debate on the freshness and the taste. Local wins every time. Local and organic? You can’t lose. As the trend toward Farm to Fork continues, you can expect to see more local in your “local” food store.
